Fly fishing in the United States: Part I, History

Saturday, January 4, 2020

Learn about the birth and history of fly fishing in the United States. Modern technology and improvements to the sport will also be covered. Example flies and fly rods will be available to observe. All are welcome. Christian Chevalier is a senior at SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse, NY studying Wildlife Science. His current employment is for the Douglaston Salmon Run in Pulaski, NY where he has worked as a River Patrol for the past three seasons. When home from school, Christian works with us as an Environmental Educator and Interpreter at MEEIC. Christian is a self-taught fly fisherman with experience fishing on world renowned river systems such as the Delaware, the Beaverkill, and the Salmon River to name a few. Not only is he well versed in the varying techniques and styles of fly-casting, he also ties his own flies. From warm water species to cold water species, if it’s a fish on the East coast, odds are he’s targeting them.
