At Governor Cuomo’s June 2, 2020 press conference we were delighted to hear him announce that children’s day camps in the State can open on June 29, 2020.
At the Town of Mamakating Town Board meeting later that day, the Board discussed the possibility of opening the Town camp this summer. Doing this will not be easy, and it will mean that there is going to be some risk. The Town will try to minimize risk by following the guidelines as they are issued by the State Dept. of Health and recognized camp associations.
Opening the camp is going to involve a lot of preparation. Therefore, before the Town starts the process, we must find out the level of interest in the community. While we are not requiring a deposit at this time, we are looking for a commitment from people that if the camp opens, their children will be attending.
Our Camp Directors and the Parks & Recreation Dept. for the Town of Mamakating are trying our very best to put together a safe as well as fun camp for our children.
We are considering running a camp for a limited number of campers. The camp would be open to returning campers and Mamakating town residents only.
We are targeting opening camp on July 6th and running through August 14th. Our camp will take a smaller number of children in both our pee wee program as well as the main camp due to the safety concerns regarding the COVID-19 virus. Unfortunately, we will not be able to offer before or after camp programs. Our camp hours will be from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. Because of the extra expenses that will be incurred we will have no choice but to charge the rates below.
Mamakating Residents $600 for the 1st child & $575 for each additional child
Non-Residents (only returning campers) $700 for 1st child & $675 each additional child.
We have not yet received any guidelines from the Governor or the DOH regarding safety procedures for camp. They could be but are not limited to the following: we will be checking temperatures each day before allowing campers to enter the campus; there is a very good possibility that children will be required to wear masks. We have not been given the go ahead to open our pool yet so this is also another consideration. Children will be required to follow all guidelines to be able to attend.
If you are considering camp, you must make your commitment by completing your registration as well as making your payment in full at time of registration. We have not set a date for registration yet but are hoping to get a feel for the interest or need from parents to open our summer camp. However, since the future of the Covid 19 spread cannot be predicted, we are not committing at this time to opening summer camp.
If we have a sufficient number of campers, and we believe it is safe to open the camp, then we will advise you when to come with your full registration, payment, current immunization records and any other documents that we may require.
